Kaanak
1896 was formed by descendants of the patriots and
heroes of the Philippine Revolution to assist the
Philippine Centennial Commision in tracing the
persons that directly participated in the 1896
Revolution. This was part of the preparations for the
1998 Independence Celebrations. Headed by Gen. Eggay
Aglipay, president of Kaanak 1896 Foundation, Inc,
their continues and they hold regular meetings at the
home of Mrs. Mita Pardo de Tavera. A direct descendant of the patriot Trinidad Pardo de Tavera, Ms. de Tavera worked as Secretary of Social Welfare and then as the chief of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes.
A
webpage for Kaanak 1896 was conceived when Ms. Cita
Borromeo-Garcia posted a short note at the RP-Rizal
forum in reply to the question, if
Rizal's ideas are trickling down to the common pinoy
through the descendants of his siblings. Cita
is a descendant of general Guillermo Masangkay one of
the closest confidants of andres bonifacio. Her
sister, Soledad is the author of The Cry of
Balintawak, A Contrived Controversy--A Textual
Analysis with Appended Documents.
This
Gallery will consist of historical writings and
photographs, reminiscences not only of Kaanak 1896
members but also descendants of Filipinos who lived
during the tumultuous but glorious days of 1896-1901
and would like to contribute
